The Story Behind Our Name

One little life inspired a movement to change how baby loss is cared for.

When we were expecting our first baby, we chose two names we loved but decided to wait until birth to find out if we were having a boy or a girl: Heidi for a girl and James for a boy.

On May 4, 2024, our daughter, Heidi Michelle Strahl, died during childbirth.

In the hours that followed, a priest blessed Heidi and shared that, in the Catholic faith, Heidi is considered a saint in Heaven. Those words stayed with us. When it came time to name the organization, we combined the names we had lovingly chosen for our baby with the reminder that Heidi is forever our little saint.

Heidi Saint James became more than the name of a nonprofit. It became a way to honor Heidi's life and a promise to change how pregnancy and infant loss is cared for so more families receive the support and time they deserve.
